In a very disciplined family, a child should be used to a regular bedtime and wake up time. It is the responsibility of a parent or parents to enforce discipline in a child with regards to regular bedtime. This should be established from babyhood so that it gets accustomed to this healthy routine. However note that any disruption can trigger insomnia in a young child. And the busy lifestyles of parents nowadays does not encourage this principle creating situations, so it predisposes children to unbridled anxiety, insecurity and insomnia.
Insomnia can affect children in two ways: one is short term or acute. In this case, the child could be sleepless for a night or two for a week. This type of insomnia is usually caused by either medication or sickness that makes the child uncomfortable. If you make the child comfortable and administer the appropriate medication this type of sleep disorder disappears like headache.
